However, choosing the right one can be tricky if you try to figure it all out alone.

Today, we’re going to help simplify things by going over some of our favorite picks for used Hyundai and Genesis models to meet the needs of different families. We’ll cover small models, midsize options, and larger vehicles. The right one for your family depends on how many passengers you have and what your lifestyle looks like.

Small Vehicles for Small Families

We’re going in ascending order by size, so we’re kicking things off with smaller vehicles. These are perfect for getting you and your significant other around town each day. They can also work great for one or two kids, but things can get cramped beyond that point.

#1 – Hyundai Sonata (Midsize Sedan)

Although Hyundai makes a smaller car in the Elantra, we find the Sonata is the perfect place to start when you’re looking for a sedan to fit your family. As a midsize car, you get something here that is quite spacious inside and remarkably functional. But since it’s a sedan, the Sonata is still incredibly fun to drive, and you get impressive gas mileage.

You’ll find numerous engines in used Sonata models, with options that include turbocharged powerhouses and hybrids that deliver incredible fuel efficiency. Inside, the Sonata gives you a comfortable cabin with more room to stretch out in than you might expect. You get a nice, big trunk too, giving you plenty of space for shopping bags and anything else you want.

From here on out, we’re focusing on SUVs since that’s what a lot of families prefer these days. Getting us rolling, we have the Venue, which is one of two subcompact SUVs from Hyundai. The other model, the Kona, is great, but we find the Venue is ideal for a lot of folks looking for a great small vehicle to meet the needs of their family.

In particular, the Venue is one of the most affordable vehicles on the market, making it a great choice even when you buy new. Looking at a pre-owned Venue, you can get something small and fun to drive that’s incredibly budget-friendly. Inside a used Venue, you’ll get 18.7 cu.ft. of rear cargo space and an eight-inch infotainment display for impressive functionality.

#3 – Hyundai Tucson (Compact SUV)

Moving up just a bit in size, the Hyundai Tucson is a compact SUV that’s the perfect choice if you want something small, but not too small. As much as we love the Venue and Kona, they can be a bit too modest for some families. The Tucson is the way to go if you want something more spacious inside, with impressive performance and capabilities.

You can find numerous engines in used Tucson models, including hybrid powertrains that provide remarkable gas mileage. A pre-owned Tucson can even handle light towing, giving you something incredibly versatile. In the 2022 to 2024 Tucson, you get 41.2 cu.ft. of rear cargo space, along with an available 10.25-inch infotainment screen.

#4 – Genesis GV70 (Compact Luxury SUV)

If you want to get your family around town each day in the lap of luxury, then a pre-owned Genesis model is the perfect way to go. Genesis vehicles are highly regarded for their beautiful style, impressive performance, and sophisticated features inside and out. The GV70 is a compact SUV, making it ideal if you want something small and fun to drive.

Looking at the debut model from 2022, you’ll find 28.9 cu.ft. of rear cargo volume along with a beautiful 14.5-inch infotainment system. Genesis refreshed the GV70 for the 2026 model year, adding a stunning 27-inch widescreen display that stretches across the front dashboard. #5 – Hyundai Santa Fe (Midsize SUV)

One of two great midsize SUVs we’re focusing on today, the Santa Fe is an incredibly popular choice for families. It has been around since 2001, proving itself as a versatile option that is fun to drive. You can find different engines on used models; the 2021 to 2023 Santa Fe, for example, has a standard 191-hp engine, an available 281-hp turbocharged option, and an efficient hybrid powertrain.

It’s important to consider different features when looking at used Santa Fe models, especially when it comes to the interior layout. Although the 2023 Santa Fe is a two-row midsize SUV, the 2024 model launched a new generation, and with it, the Santa Fe grew into a three-row model. That’s a big difference, so keep it in mind when looking at our used options.

#6 – Genesis GV80 (Midsize Luxury SUV)

If you want a spacious and luxurious SUV for your family, then the Genesis GV80 is a fantastic choice. Quite roomy inside, the GV80 gives you incredibly comfortable and refined seating for your family, with two or three rows available. You can find different engines on used models, making it easy to get the kind of performance you prefer.

Much like the GV70, the features inside this model have changed a bit in recent years. Looking at the original 2021 GV80, you’ll find a 14.5-inch infotainment display joined by an available 12.3-inch instrument cluster. With the 2025 GV80, Genesis refreshed its interior and replaced these two screens with a single 27-inch HD display that looks fantastic.

Larger Vehicles for Bigger Families

Smaller vehicles can feel great when getting around town each day, but they’re a problem when you need to bring five or six people with you. Hyundai offers a bigger SUV that works great for larger families, which ensures you can find everything you want.

#7 – Hyundai Palisade (Three-Row Midsize SUV)

For a larger SUV that works perfectly for big or growing families, the Hyundai Palisade is the perfect choice. This is a three-row model and the largest SUV in the Hyundai lineup. Since it is not as big or pricey as some full-size models out there, it can still fit into your lifestyle while also providing you with room for seven or eight passengers to be comfortable inside.

You can find a wide range of great features inside a used Palisade, including a standard 12.3-inch infotainment display in 2023 and newer models. These models have 18 cu.ft. of rear cargo space, with 45.8 cu.ft. behind the second row and 86.4 cu.ft. of total cargo volume. So you get something incredibly practical and functional that still feels terrific on the road.
